Something Fishy!

Something fishy…

Statutory warning: Vegetarians, not very pleasing pics :)

Go fishing, or go to a wal-mart and buy an Alaskan Pink Salmon (or any BIG fish you like)

Ingredients:
Fish
Salt
Jalapenos (green chilly) - 4
Red pepper (red chilly) – 3
Onions – 3 or 4 medium sized
Tamarind (2 spoons paste, equivalent chunk)
11/2 cups water
Tomatoes (2-3, medium sized)
Spices:
Cardamom, clove, cinnamon sticks, coriander powder, cumin seeds or anything u have.

Optional:
Curry leaves
Coriander leaves
Coconut powder
Red Wine!! (1/2 cup)

Clean the fish (real clean!), chop it up in chunks as shown in the pic
Marinate the fish pieces in generous amount of ginger garlic paste(2 -3 spoonfuls) along with salt, crushed, red pepper and a pinch of turmeric.
Chop onions finely along with jalapenos.
Fry a little oil(2-3 tablespoons or more depending on onions) in a frying pan, add jalapenos, red pepper and curry leaves if you have them.
As the Onion pieces turn a little brown, drop in the marinated fish pieces gently and fry them for as long as possible without getting them burnt (around 6-8 minutes on a medium flame).

Add tamarind paste mixed in water and let it simmer for another 10-12 minutes, keep checking in between if you are cooking it for the first time.

Add powdered spices, a little salt and pepper and chooped coriander leaves and coconut powder

Turn the stove off after 2 min.

Optional: Use a little red wine during marination if you like. ( A heavy lunch or dinner with wine included gives a wonderful nap :) )
